Avoiding "The Dirty Dozen"

Writer's picture: Crop Swap LA Crop Swap LA

"The Dirty Dozen" are 12 vegetables and fruits that are most likely to be heavily laden with pesticides at your grocery store. So many consumers think that they're doing the right thing by buying produce for their family, hoping that it's packed with essential vitamins; but in fact they're most likely packed with carcinogen producing pesticides.

This summer and fall we've been able to grow or source 11 of the 12 items on the list (next year we'll get those strawberries!). Not only are the harvests pesticide free, they also were delivered to our members when they were the most nutrient rich.

Natural foods shouldn't hurt us.

Growing Communities, Inc. dba Crop Swap LA ™

We acknowledge the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). We pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.

They are the First Peoples of the region, their lands were unceded, they did not negotiate a treaty with Mexico or the US government.

Today, the First Peoples of Los Angeles struggle every day for their sovereignty.
